Urgent appointments (within 48 hours) are available for pregnant (3 months & under) patients who are experiencing pain, bleeding, or have concerns of miscarriage. Appointments may include ultrasound, blood work, and doctor counsel.

Smoking Cessation
A unique smoking/tobacco cessation program is offered to all Olson Center patients. Our specialist, Dr. Tom Klingemann, provides one-on-one counseling sessions. The physical addiction is studied in-depth, but then the focus changes to the psychological addiction and behavioral modification techniques to overcome the psychological withdrawal symptoms.

Social Work
Social workers Amanda Schraut and Linda Lemon offer discreet information and aid as well as strong advocacy for referred Olson Center patients in need of crisis intervention, financial counseling and social assessments.

Nutrition Counseling
On a referral basis only, nutritionist Jaime Stevens helps educates patients on anything related to prenatal and postpartum nutrition.

Post partum Depression Counseling
Mental health counseling for our prenatal and postnatal patients is provided by Leigh Cook, MSN, APRN-NP, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC. Leigh is a nurse practitioner with a specialty in women's mental health and offers appointments on Wednesdays in our clinic through referral only.

Massage for Mom after Delivery
Massage therapy is offered to patients in their room after delivery! Call or text Megan to schedule your appointment at 402-301-3301. Rates are 20 min/$25; 30 min/$35; and 40 min/$45.


For non-pregnant patients who choose to see a specialist for annual care, osteoporosis screening, abnormal pap smears, STD screening, and other various health issues.

Hysterectomy Alternatives
For women who are seeking a second opinion or alternatives to a hysterectomy, the Olson Center offers guidance and treatment with the Hysterectomy Alternatives "HALT" Clinic.  Experts from both gynecology and interventional radiology provide options that are nonsurgical, minimally invasive for conditions that include: excessive uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, and pelvic congestion syndrome.  The clinic's specialists include Dr. Joseph McBride, radiologist, and Dr. Laura Cudzilo, gynecologist.

High Risk Obstetrics

Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, or Perinatologists, focus on the diagnosis, consultation, and management of high-risk pregnancies. At the Olson Center, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists oversee the routine 20-week ultrasound for every pregnancy, regardless of risk level.


  • Offer consultation
  • Consider genetics and risk for abnormalities
  • Monitor high-risk pregnancies through the Prenatal Diagnostic Center
  • Collaborate with maternal diabetic experts

Midwives provide personal, family-centered obstetrics care which focuses on health and wellness. All of the Nurse-Midwives at the Olson Center are certified by the state of Nebraska and the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Nurse-Midwives work in a collaborative agreement with our obstetricians. 

What Services Does a Nurse-Midwife Offer?

Pregnancy Care

  • Healthy pregnancy counseling including nutrition and exercise
  • Water therapy
  • Natural pain relief
  • Pain medication and/or epidural if needed

Postpartum Care

  • Care of the mother after delivery, including 2 week and 6 week checkups
  • Breast-feeding education and support

Well-Woman Care

  • Annual physical exams and pap smears
  • Family planning and contraceptive counseling
  • Gynecologic care and counseling
  • Perimenopause and menopausal care

Gynecologic Cancer

The Nebraska Medicine Gynecologic Oncology team will be moving to their new home at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center starting June 5, 2017. All gyn/onc providers and services will be located on the 4th floor of the new cancer center. The team can address:

  • Emotional support 
  • Collaborative relationships with other medical professionals
  • Surgery (including robotic), chemotherapy, radiation

Breast Care

For women who are breast cancer survivors, who have gynecologic symptoms related to breast cancer treatment, have a family history of breast cancer, or who are just concerned about breast cancer.

Our specialists from Heartland Center for Reproductive Medicine will give you a comprehensive evaluation to help you determine what steps you want to take. Then, if you choose assisted reproductive procedures, they'll take you step by step through the entire process.

Genetic Counseling

In the prenatal setting, our counselors meet with individuals and families prior to conception and during pregnancy when there are concerns regardeing family history, advanced maternal age, abnormal screening or testing results, pregnancy loss, abnormal ultrasound findings or new prenatal diagnosis. Sara Fisher, MS, LCGC provides genetic counseling services at the Olson Center.

Breastfeeding/Lactation Counseling

Lactation consultation is offered in our clinic every Monday (all day) and Wednesday afternoon. Women are able to schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant for any issues including:

Sore nipples/breasts
Management of oversupply and forceful letdown
Positioning and latch-on difficulty/breast refusal
Feeding pattern assessment
Low milk supply
Slow weight gain
Premature/special needs infants
Twins/other multiples
Infant oral assessment
Moms with a history of breast surgery
Back-to-work issues - Pumping questions

THURSDAYS ARE FREE BREASTFEEDING HELP! The Breastfeeding Support Group is a free, drop-in group and open to all women. The group meets Thursdays at 3 p.m. in the Olson Center Classroom. Hosted by a Nebraska Medicine registered nurse and lactation consultant, each meeting offers moms a chance to weigh their baby and have any breastfeeding questions answered.
